Introduction

In this phase, we will be... moving from an identical return to a stable but diverse return.

Depending on what you want to do, whether you're rallying or playing against your opponent, the strokes you make will mix up the game. They can either keep the game going or bring it to a close, more or less intentionally.

Now that you've learned to keep the right distance for your forehand and backhand strokes, you will learn to vary your strokes (actions). This will create different trajectories, forcing your partner or opponent to adjust. Depending on the time you give them, this may be difficult.

You will vary:

  • the placement of your strokes,

  • the speed,

  • the action on the ball (specific racket-ball contact in line with your intent),

  • the first choice of service to put your opponent in difficulty and take the game in hand.
